The title says it all: High Kick Girl!
The exclamation point at the end just kind of seals the deal, right?
If any movie this year should be expected to live up to its name, High Kick Girl! would be the prime candidate for my money.
Rina Takeda stars as Kei, a high-school girl who joins a karate dojo and — despite kicking the asses of all the boys in her class — doesn’t score a black belt. Why? Because Kei only wants to fight and win (ah, the martial arts staple of discipline and self-control…you can always count on it appearing in even the most bone-shattering of flicks). So the hot-headed young lady joins the Kowashiya (a.k.a. Destroyers) who’ll let her beat the crap out of people and earn dough at the same time. But when the dastardly true intentions of the Kowashiya’s leader become clear to her, Kei finds herself caught in a precarious position that will have her choosing sides in a fight to end them all.
Aside from all that, I guess the main question you’re asking is…can Kei kick high?
Well, see for yourself. Oh boy, can she!
If you want to know more about the movie — and understand Japanese to boot — you can follow the its official blog to stay up-to-date on the production.
High Kick Girl! is slated for an early-summer release in Japan.
