…but in a way that makes absolutely no cultural sense.

All right, so at this point the web is abuzz with positively deafening hype about the news that Will Smith’s kid Jaden is gonna play the title character in a remake of the 1984 Ralph Macchio/Pat Morita hit, The Karate Kid.

That’s all well and good, but if reports are to be believed, the new film will be relocated to Beijing, China, where the titular bully-fodder tot will get schooled by a martial arts master in order to stand up for himself. Uh, hello, Hollywood, the movie isn’t called The Kung-Fu Kid or The Shaolin Kid.

Karate is Japanese. Look it up, morons! Better “wax on/wax off” those Asian studies.
