The Montauk Monster

Published by diabolik at 5:48 pm under Just for laughs, Movie news Edit This

So…some days back, maybe a couple of weeks ago, this bad boy washed up on the sun-dappled, sandy shores of Eastern Long Island:

The Montauk Monster

What is it? Well…no one seems to have an answer yet. People have been speculating everything from a sea turtle without its shell, to a dead raccoon. Rumors erupted about government testing gone awry at the nearby animal testing labs on Plum Island. Even more strange is that the critter has disappeared! No one seems to know the whereabouts of the corpse.

The most recent speculation ties the monster in with a local horror movie production called Splinterheads, and assumes that the creature is basically a slick marketing ploy unleashed on a gullible public to generate buzz for the flick, but so far no one associated with the film has responded to queries. Same goes for the Cartoon Network show Cryptids Are Real, an earlier viral marketing suspect. Only time will tell…

If you’d like to check out the CNN news report on the Montauk Monster, click here. To bug the Splinterheads filmmakers, visit the film’s official website. Truth be told (and “the truth is out there,” heh he heh), the site seems to hint at a carnival or amusement park concept for the movie, so accusations of that production’s involvement could be off-base as well.
