Hip-hop and Indian beats have been going hand-in-hand for a while now, but opening today is the Akshay Kumar-starring Bollywood action comedy Singh is Kinng, and the title track features none other than the man dubbed “America’s Most Loveable Pimp,” Snoop Dogg.

Bollywood movies have always featured music and dance sequences as a core element of their audience appeal, and the American hip-hop community has been taking notice. The New York Times has quoted Snoop Dogg as saying, “I’m coming to take over Bollywood. I really dig how much music is infused with the movies. Lots of hip-hop tracks sample Indian music, and a lot of their music sounds like it was influenced by hip-hop….This is just the beginning.” You can read the full article here.

Singh is Kinng opens today in New York at the ImaginAsian Theater and the AMC Theaters Empire 25 in Times Square. You can find showtimes at both venues here.

You can visit the film’s official website here, and the Akshay Kumar/Snoop Dogg “Singh is Kinng” music video is right below.
